Good Omens is a satirical fantasy novel about Armageddon and how an angel and demon who fall in love with life on earth work together to stop the Anti-Christ from doing his part in the end of the world.

Review:

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett co-wrote a satirical fantasy story about the end of the world and the events that led up to it. The hosts of Heaven and Hell had been waiting more than six-thousand years for the end of it all. The “ineffable” plan was written and the fate was set in stone… until it wasn’t.

This story is funny in so many ways. They poke fun at so many common things we take for granted each day and do so in a kind manner. I laughed out loud quite a few times while reading it.

It makes you think about stereotypes and how most of the time they have elements of truth to them, but also are never quite right. Are bad people always bad? Do good people never make mistakes?

The story is fun and what I appreciate the most about it is how they will give a promise, then change the subject for a long time, then randomly will fulfill the promise… just after you’d forgotten all about it. It’s brilliant writing.

I also love that the two authors took turns writing chapters and would pass them back and forth, co-working in the truest sense. I’ve had the joy of writing a silly story that way myself and it’s so much fun. As I read this book, I just imagined two good friends trying to write the next bit that would make the other laugh and having taken a turn they surely wouldn’t have expected.
