Dreadful

Summary:

A dark wizard wakes up in his lab, his mind absent of who he is or how he got there, but he quickly learns that he is a part of a plan to do something evil and he isn’t certain he wants to be bad anymore. A journey of self-discovery and letting go of the past to become who you want to be in the future.

Review:

I enjoyed this story far more than I expected. I had no frame of reference, as I’ve not read the author before, but I often find myself underwhelmed when I branch out to new writers.

This story did not dissapoint. It was funny and had some great themes, but especially did character development well. I enjoyed watching the protagonist, an anti-hero, be challenged and overcome them in humorous ways.

My only “gripe” would be that the book had a strange ending. The story ended in a satisfying manner, but the post script text was not necessary and felt odd.

I will also say, the way the main villain was defeated was also a bit of a let down - but at the same time, I had expected the method. That’s me being really nitpicky as a writer, but it’s something that I felt could’ve been done stronger.

The rest of the story was great and I’m glad I read it. I hope the author releases more books in the future, as she has a great writing style.
