Summary:
Death Masks is the fifth book in the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. In this book, Harry is faced with his biggest challenge yet, recovering a priceless magical artifact that was stolen from the Vatican before the group of demons who want to use it for a spell that could wipe out a third of the population can enact their plan.
Review:
The Dresden Files just gets better and better with each novel that I read. It’s one of the few series I’ve read that truly do improve each time.
What stuck out to me the most about this novel is how well Butcher manages to use foreshadowing, even from a few books prior in some cases. He takes little details that you would 100% miss on a cursory reading and turns them into scenes.
I appreciate the character development and how he wrestles with faith, philosophy, and more in Dresden’s mind. It’s a nice touch to a protagonist you’re going to be following for a long time.
